According to the legend it is believed that Adi Shankracharya was found a black shaligram marble idol in the Alaknanda River and after that kept inside the temple complex in 9th century. When the idol was found in the Alakanda River he is in the meditation posture and flanked by the Nar and Naryan. Inside the temple complex the other 15 idols are also made of black marble. The beautiful Roof, well decorated pillars and the entrance are increased the charm of the place. It is believed that this is the place where the Lord Vishnu was meditated and his wife Goddess Lakshmi converted herself into a berry tree to protect him from hot and cold weather. Apart from the Badrinath Dham there is lot of many visiting places like –Mana Village which is the last Indian Village which is attracted thousands of the tourists. Tapta Kund is located near the Badrinath Dhan and also a popular hot water thermal spring. Charan Paduka is one of the major attractions of the place and also a rock having a foot impression of Lord Vishnu. Mata Murti Temple is one of the major attractions of the place which is dedicated to Mother of Lord Vishnu. There is a Mata murti fair is celebrated with great joy. Narad Kund, Bheem Pul, Ganesha Cave, Brahma Kapal, Sheshnetra, Vyas cave, Panch Dhara, Sathopanth lake, Vasudhara Falls, Alakapuri Glacier, Saraswati River, Surya Kund, etc are the other major attraction of the place.
